“Ron Paul 2008” may be the battle cry of the paleo-conservative voter, as well as the fiscally responsible libertarian or even moderate democrat, but when perusing the hard and fast poll numbers, USA Election Polls is correct in being troubled by the fact that Mr. Paul’s supporters were effectively not counted when it came to the preparation of poll information.
While it is true that Mr. Paul seems to make polling of his supporters harder since he appeals quite frequently to those who never cast their ballots before and are thus not yet in the “polling system” the fact remains that because he is not lumped in with the big two, Giuliani and McCain, he frequently is considered to be of little importance.
This polling dilemma has unfortunately cost Ron Paul a head start and the ability to have his message heard by many more than those who delight in reading about the more obscure candidates. Add to this his fiscal message that centers on a smaller government instead of a larger one, his unwillingness to accept illegal immigration as a status quo, and his inability to give those who are seeking for inconsistencies a foothold – he subscribes to a consistent life ethic – and it is not surprising that while pollsters may have a hard time with him, the general public loves him! After all, when was the last time that you encountered a politician who practiced what he preached and who did not change his mind even if polls showed that there might be more political hay to be made by doing so?
