Universal Pictures Moves Forward With Kurt Cobain Project

Universal Pictures is in negotiations with the director from the Oscar-nominated drama “The Messenger” to rework the screenplay for the unnamed Kurt Cobain project. Director, Oren Moverman is also set for involvement in the film about the frontman of rock group Nirvana.

David Benioff (Author of “The 25th Hour” and “City of Thieves”) was first brought on board with the project in 2007.

The material for the screenplay on Cobain’s existence will in part come from the Charles R. Cross biography, “Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain.”

Writer-director Gus Van Sant made the rock and roll drama “Last Days” which mirrored Cobain’s drug-induced life. Benioff has done first-hand research with Cobain’s friends in Aberdeen and Seattle to help in writing the drafts of his script.
