Announcing Text Analysis Tools for Excel
KnowWare International Inc. announces the addition of two new Text Analysis tools to the QI Macros SPC (statistical process control) software for Excel. To create a Six Sigma improvement project, employees often find it necessary to analyze and summarize customer comments and data about errors. The QI Macros have added two tools to simplify this analysis:
· Word Count converts paragraphs of comments into single words and counts them to find the most common words. Customer complaint data is a rich source of improvement opportunities. Word Count helps reveal their hidden wants and wishes.
Analysis of one hospital’s insurance claims comments, for example, found that the most common reason for rejection was overlapping dates of service (DOS).
· Cross Tabulation lets the user select up to four fields in an Excel file. Cross Tabulation will then determine the optimal way to organize the data and analyze the frequency of key words and phrases in relationship to the other words.
Analysis of one metal fabricator’s scrap, for example, found over a million pounds caused by one machine.
The QI Macros are an add-in for Microsoft Excel that automate all of the charts and diagrams required for statistical process control (SPC) and Lean Six Sigma. There are over 75,000 registered users. The QI Macros consist of four parts:
1. 21 Macros that use existing Excel data to create pareto, control charts, and histograms.
2. Over 60 fill-in-the-blank templates for Lean Six Sigma and ISO documentation.

4. Data transformation tools like restacking, word counts and cross tabulation.
