2010 Winter Olympics Results Figure Skating Men’s Singles Finals: Evan Lysacek Skates to Gold, Plushenko Settles for Silver

In one of the deepest fields in men’s singles Olympic figure skating it was Evan Lysacek who rose to the top as the American captured gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics with a nearly flawless free skate program that edged him past defending Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko.

Lysacek entered Thursday night trailing Plushenko by .55 points and instantly put the pressure on the Russian by laying down a performance of a lifetime, totaling a 167.37 for his free skate. While Plushenko was able to land a quad in his skate he looked a bit shaky on a number of his jumps and it cost him as he finished with 165.51 points on the night, giving Lysacek the gold.

Japan’s Daisuke Takahashi came into Thursday night in third position and he managed to hold on to that spot for the bronze despite a less than perfect routine.
