At times it appears hard to pin down Mrs. Clinton’s political positions. Yet what in the past earned John Kerry the dubious distinction of being accused of flip-flopping has garnered the former First Lady a reputation of adjusting her views in keeping with her personal, spiritual, and also political development. Perhaps nowhere else do the political beliefs of Hillary Clinton spark as much controversy as in the area of social issues; with abortion being the litmus test for many Christian voters, the former First Lady makes it clear that while personally opposing abortion, she is a firm supporter of the legislation that gives women to power to decide whether to continue or end an unwanted pregnancy.
Supporters feared this point of view might her cost her in the polls in the more conservative states, but the national polls listed on USA Election Polls reveal that even in conservative Texas she has a good showing with 34% in the month of March, while Utah apportioned her 31% in February. Granted, these numbers may not be sufficient to win the nomination from the Democratic Party – especially with Barack Obama and John Edwards nipping at her heels – but considering her ability to search for and find a middle ground that appeals to moderate voters in even these hot button debate does appear to ensure her a good chance and the possibility of bypassing the scrutiny from the far left as well as those termed to be moral majority of the republican party. Appealing to moderates of all persuasions, she is busily courting the independent vote and thus far succeeding swimmingly.
