Despite being a former employee of McDonald’s platinum selling rapper Twista was dropped from the fast food company’s upcoming concert tour due to his “controversial lyrics.”
A spokesman for the chain, William Whitman released a statement saying “"Although we respect free speech and artistic expression, we do not condone or perpetuate derogatory language. We want to ensure these free concerts are fun as well as appropriate for all of our customers.”
The 33-year-old Twista was scheduled to perform at the Aug. 7 show in Chicago, his hometown, but found out Monday that his name had been scratched. The “Slow Jamz” artist said he was surprised about McDonald’s decision “especially after hearing from certain people that represented McDonald's that they were fans of the music and they were excited about the whole thing and that they backed me, and then to hear a few a days later that I was actually not on the show.”
