Iran’s Supreme Leader Denies Nuclear Weapons Claims

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has denied accusations that his country is developing nuclear weapons and called the claims “baseless.”

Khamenei was addressing the latest report issued by the UN atomic watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency that warned Iran’s cooperation with the organization was lacking which could indicate “possible military dimensions” concerning their nuclear program.

Going beyond just denying the claims the Ayatollah said it was against the belief system of Iranians, telling reporters “The West's accusations are baseless because our religious beliefs bar us from using such weapons. We do not believe in atomic weapons and are not seeking that.”

Iran has insisted that their nuclear program was designed for peaceful purposes only yet several countries have expressed serious concern over the country’s recent announcement that they had started enriching uranium to 20%, an indicator that they may be looking to develop nuclear weapons.
