It was 44 years ago today that the Narconon drug treatment program was started. Narconon was founded by William Benitez who was an inmate at the Arizona State Prison. Mr. Benitez fought a long discouraging battle with his own hard-core addiction for many years. After serving his fourth prison sentence; he decided to search for real solutions. He found a technology that could increase one’s abilities and happiness while making them more in control over their environment. He called the program Narconon, meaning no-drugs or narcotics, none.
The program had great success with the services it offered within the prison walls and since then has spread to many states and countries worldwide. Narconon has helped millions of people with it’s over 120 centers in 50 different countries.
The goal of Narconon is to have graduates who not only live drug-free lives but, who also go on to lead stable, ethical and productive lives as well. One of the advantages of this program is that it offers a non-traditional approach to a sober life. The program is entirely drug-free but, also includes a detoxification program utilizing exercise and sauna. This has proven an effective method to free a person from the harmful physical effects of drugs as it removes drug residues from the fat tissue. In turn this significantly reduces drug cravings as the toxic substances are pushed out of the body.
One of the most successful centers in the Narconon network is Narconon Suncoast Drug Rehabilitation Center, located in central Florida. This is a full-service in-patient facility and delivers the full Narconon program which is considered by many to be the most comprehensive drug rehabilitation program in the world. Narconon Suncoast takes into account all the factors that led a person into substance abuse and directly deals with each one of these.
Suncoast Rehabilitation Center opened its doors in December of 2008 and in their first 10 months alone had 19 graduates successfully complete the program. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) did its routine inspection as it does for any drug rehab facility and Narconon Suncoast received one of the highest scores ever given to a new facility. Additionally, they were approved as a treatment vendor by the Department of Corrections.
Narconon Suncoast has achieved a remarkable level of success in its first year of operation both from the State and student standpoint. With 23 million Americans in need of drug rehabilitation Florida and the U.S. need many more facilities like Suncoast Rehabilitation Program to effectively handle our nation’s substance abuse problem.
