Brady Quinn has finally ended his 11-day holdout with the Cleveland Browns, signing a five-year, $20.2 million deal with the team. $7.75 million of the contract is guaranteed with a maximum worth of $30 million with incentives. Although the deal was finally completed, being out of training camp for 11 days has almost eliminated the opportunity for him to be the starter this season.
Altogether, Quinn missed 16 practices. For any rookie, missing that many games doesn't allow for full knowledge and application of the playbook nor builds the camaraderie needed to build great team chemistry. For a rookie quarterback, it is vital to maximize these factors, for he is to be the leader of the team.
In this recent draft, Quinn was expected to go anywhere from #1 to top 10. However, he slipped to #23, much to the chagrin of fans across the country. When his contract negotiations came up, he and his agent Tom Condon demanded the money of someone projected in the top 10, not someone selected #23.
Currently, two first-round picks are still unsigned: Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell, the #1 pick, and New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, the #14 pick.
