United States Wins Gold at Olympics

A Week of Gold Success

With a leading total of 18 medals so far, including a leading count of 6 Gold medals, the United States has every reason to be proud of its great Olympic athletes. The first Gold came on Saturday when Hannah Kearney won the women’s freestyle skiing mogul’s event. On Wednesday, both Shaun White and Shani Davis excelled in their respective events, the men’s snowboarding half-pipe and the men’s 1000-meter speed skate, to defend their Gold titles from the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics.  That same day, Lindsey Vonn overcame physical pain and bad memories from the last Olympics to win Gold in women’s downhill skiing. Yesterday, Evan Lysacek turned in a stunning performance in the men’s free skate to defeat returning Gold medalist Evgeni Plushenko. The U.S. is also leading in Bronze medals and Silver medals. And, with a week left, we can expect to see plenty of more great Olympic moments soon.
