Crystal meth addiction continues to spread
The mid-west continues to be under siege by crystal meth addiction
CONNECTICUT | NEW YORK - The last place a seasoned LA drug cop expected to face a meth addict was right in his own home, with his 14 year old daughter.
When Ron Clem relocated his family to Montana, he thought he would be safe from the drug problems that plagued the streets of LA. Just two short weeks after enrolling his daughter in the local school, she met a girl on the school bus—a recruiter for a drug dealer—and everything went downhill from there. She became addicted to meth, spent her life’s savings and began to lead a dangerous life or prostitution to support her habit.
“This is a sad story that is occurring everywhere, even in small rural towns”, says a spokesperson from Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “It illustrates exactly what happens with drug addiction and that no one is untouchable. If it can happen to a seasoned drug cop’s family in a sleepy town out West, it can happen to anyone, anywhere. That’s why education about drug addiction is so vital for not only children, but also parents. It’s important to educate them in the signs of drug abuse so that they can identify problems early-on, should they arise. It’s important that we educate them in becoming vigilant, even over-vigilant, in protecting their children from this enormous problem that is plaguing our nation and stealing the lives of our young people away from their families.”
Clem’s daughter was fortunate that her father recognized her problem. Although it took her years to get clean, he was able to save her life. Now she has her own daughter to look out for and protect. And her experience has made her even more equipped to do so.
