Each of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s subway lines inside the NYC Transit stations were delayed or suspended on Wednesday after a severe thunderstorm flooded the city’s underground artery for commuters.
The MTA, which operates the New York City Transit system, advised travelers to stay at home if they had no other means of transportation.
Dumping more than 2 ½ inches of water on the city, flooding in the stations caused long delays for morning commuters. Andrew Albert, a board member of the MTA, said “I don't remember this many lines being affected before. Lines that weren't affected before are now being affected. It was an extreme amount of water in a very short period of time. The sewers and the pumps cannot keep up with it.”
The MTA has said that the NYC Transit should be restored to nearly full operation by this evening.
