Infielder Graffanino of the Milwaukee is out for the season after tearing ACL making catch on Wenesday.
Graffanino suffered the injury making a leaping catch to end the first inning of Wednesday's 19-4 loss at Colorado, capping a three-game Rockies sweep in which the Brewers were outscored, 36-10.
The loss of Graffanino represents a significant blow to the Brewers' depth because he appeared at all four infield positions this season, and also started three games in left field.
The 35-year-old was playing on a one-year, $3.25 million contract he signed in January and batted .238 with a career-high nine home runs in 231 at-bats.
Graffanino has suffered knee injuries before. He tore the same right ACL in 2002 and was on the disabled list from Aug. 25 through the end of the season. Graffanino underwent surgery on Sept. 9 of that year.
The Brewers are just 1 game ahead of the Cubs in the NL Central and this lost of Graffanino just makes it even tougher.
