David Beckham makes long awaited soccer debut

David Beckham made his long awaited soccer debut Thursday against D.C. United. Although Beckham only played 20 minutes in the game, every time he touched the ball the crowd went wild.

“It was a great reaction, very honoring. But it was also great for me to be back on the pitch. I’m happy to actually get out there and kick a soccer ball for 20 minutes,” Beckham said.

Although the Los Angeles Galaxy lost to United 1-0, the 32-year-old English midfielder said he was glad to be out on the field again.

Beckham sustained an ankle injury before he moved to the United States with his wife, Victoria Beckham, and their three sons. Due to the injury he was unable to make his soccer debut at the first game against Chelsea.

Beckham admitted that he played with some “hesitation” because he had not played in a while. He also said that he felt pressure to get back in the game. “I feel pressure in myself to just get back playing and get fit. That’s the only pressure I feel,” he said.
