Wesley Clark is a military general who has tasted politics in small doses. Originally following a steady course that allowed him to quickly advance through the ranks, it was not until he entered into more front line commands positions that he became acquainted with Washington politics, backstabbing, and support. In 2003 Clark left his political independency and instead decided to join the Democratic Party and run for the presidency. Scrapping his ambitions in favor of John Kerry, he is once again thinking of making a run for the White House.
While he is not yet declared, USA Election Polls cites numerous polls that offer up single digit numbers. Of the states in question, the New Mexico 01-12-07 poll taken by the American Research Group show him to have had a 5% share, placing him right behind John Edwards (then at 12%) and in front of Dennis Kucinich (at 3% at that time).
The rumors about a running are rife, but thus far there is no confirmation. Clark is quoted by Amy Goodman as saying that he is contemplating throwing his hat in the ring every single day. While thus far he is undecided, some pundits are trying to find out what his entering into the race might mean for the other candidates. Perhaps the most affected would be John Edwards who had a hard time in the last presidential election to keep his nose ahead of Wesley Clark. Yet republicans who admire the integrity that appears to be synonymous with Clark might also find him an attractive choice, which in fact might take some votes away from McCain.
