British music mogul Tony Wilson died Friday at the age of 57. Wilson died of a heart attack due to complications from kidney cancer.
Wilson was the manager of several bands including A Certain Ratio and The Durutti Column. He also founded the record label Factory Records and the Hacienda nightclub. Factory Records was the home of many popular bands including Happy Mondays and the Joy Division.
Wilson’s record label and nightclub were said to have made Manchester Britain’s “most vibrant” music city and is responsible for the birth of bands including the Smiths, the Stone Roses, and Oasis.
