Ron Paul is hoping a combination of fanatic internet support along with a pledge from fellow Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will translate into a victory in the Ames Straw Poll to be held on Saturday.
The Texas Congressman has drawn the most active campaign via the internet among all candidates in the 2008 presidential race. Ron Paul supporters have effectively taken over message boards and dominated blog sites with Paul’s campaign message and helped him become one of the most searched terms on the internet.
What Paul is hoping for is that many of those online supporters will take Mitt Romney up on his offer of providing free admission and transportation to the Iowa Straw Poll. Many of Paul’s strongest supporters have indicated that they would take Romney up on his offer and declare their vote for Paul.
With frontrunner Rudy Giuliani absent from the Ames Straw Poll and John McCain electing not to participate the Paul campaign could enjoy a significant boost with a victory but most in the media have already claimed Romney the victor.
In the end Paul will have to hope that the absence of both Giuliani and McCain will translate into votes for his message.
