Padres Roster Moves

Padres placed catcher Michael Barrett on the 15-day disabled list with concussion-like symptoms.

Barrett has been outperformed by Josh Bard since coming over from the Cubs, so this might not be much of a loss for the Padres.

Padres purchased the contract of catcher Pete Laforest from Triple-A Portland.

LaForest, who was up with the Padres back in April, is back to play behind Josh Bard after hitting .229/.349/.545 with 29 homers in 292 at-bats for Portland.

The Padres will want to see if the power carries over to the majors, but they'll still give Bard most of the starts because of the way he's played lately.

Padres recalled RHP Mike Thompson from Triple-A Portland.

The Pads wanted a fresh arm after using seven pitchers last night. Thompson will be available in relief today.

Cassel gave up two runs in three innings of relief Friday in his major league debut.
