Cardinals Win Series vs. Dodgers

Ryan Ludwick's three-run homer in the first inning spawned a rout, as the Cardinals went on to thrash the Dodgers, 12-2, at Busch Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Anthony Reyes (2-11) kept up a recent run of quality pitching by Cardinals starters, allowing two runs over six innings.

Reyes struck out five, allowed one walk and was touched for seven base hits.

In four starts since a late July recall from the Minors, Reyes is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA while notching 15 strikeouts and six walks over 24 innings.

Ludwick's homer was his 10th of the season, the first time in his Major League career that he's reached double figures.

The outfielder added an RBI single in a five-run Cardinals third that chased L.A. starter Mark Hendrickson.

The win capped a successful homestand for the Cardinals, allowing them to remain on the fringes of contention in the National League Central.

St. Louis went 5-2 on a seven-game stretch against contending NL West clubs San Diego and Los Angeles.
