Past actor and U.S. Senator Fred Thompson has enlarged his exploratory presidential campaign working group to incorporate a new heavy weight, Bill Lacy. Fred Thompson, it seems that, have a great deal of self-confidence in Mr. Lacy who ran his winning election attempt for the U.S. Senate back in 1994.
Bill Lacy's restart includes the winning campaigns of Ronald Regan / George HW Bush and the unsuccessful campaign of Bob Dole. The adding of Bill Lacy is just another indication that Fred Thompson is getting ready to make his admission into a previously crowded GOP presidential field.
For guys like me that take pleasure in watching good movies and TV shows that Fred Thompson in now apart of, it gives me pain not to be amongst his initial followers at this time.
There is no doubt in my mind that Fred Thompson is a good candidate with powerful traditional credentials. On the other hand, I want to witness the Republican Party go in a different way in 2008 and the only contender I see, so far, that can make that happen is ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Extreme conservatism is as terrible as intense liberalism as both are devoted to controlling the actions of others.
For the GOP to stay alive in presidential selection in the future the party must shift more in the direction of the center politically especially on social matters.
Millions of citizens that never felt intimidated by the GOP get a big wake up call when Congress controlled by GOP and Bush went out of there way to get concerned in a personal family issue with the Terri Schiavo Law.
To me, Fred Thompson corresponds to the same social conservative movement that overlooked the motivation of a most of Americans to favor a small fridge base of public conservative GOP extremist supporters.
