Shaun Alexander handled the ball three times for the Seattle Seahawks, which was three more carries than LaDainian Tomlinson managed for the San Diego Chargers as both running backs took it easy in their first exhibition game of the season.
In the end it was the Seahawks who managed to win 24-16 after putting 17 points on the board in the fourth quarter. Matt Hasselbeck looked sharp in his only drive of the game. The Seahawks quarterback went 4-5 for 65 yards and connected with Deion Branch for a 31-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Billy Volek evened the score for the Chargers when he found Malcom Floyd on a 14-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and then Nate Kaeding added a pair of field goals in the third to give the Chargers a 13-7 advantage. Kaeding then pushed the lead to 16-7 with a 50-yard boot in the fourth.
Seneca Wallace brought the Seahawks to within two after hitting Ben Obomanu on a 17-yard strike and then Josh Brown gave Seattle the lead with a 36-yard field goal midway through the fourth.
Both teams committed three turnovers in the game while combining for 739 yards of total offense.
