Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker continued the trend that has made this the summer of threequels as “Rush Hour 3” took the top spot at the box-office with $50.2 million over the weekend.
“Rush Hour 3” bumped last week’s top movie, “The Bourne Ultimatum,” down to number two to become the sixth movie this summer to debut at the top spot with a third installment. Prior to “Rush Hour 3” the box office has been dominated by “Spider-Man 3,” “Shrek the Third,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “Ocean's Thirteen” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.”
In its second week in release the Matt Damon led ‘Bourne’ pulled in an additional $33.7 million over the weekend to push its total to over $100 million.
“The Simpsons Movie” also added nicely to its three week total with an additional $11.1 million to push its overall take to over $150 million and take the number three spot at the ticket counter.
This summer has proven to be a highly profitable period for Hollywood with a distinct possibility of reaching the $4 billion mark by the time Labor Day reaches, the official end of summer for Hollywood.
