Hurricane Flossie has continued to gather strength in the Pacific and is moving towards Hawaii with winds that have picked up to 140 mph, making it a serious threat to cause damage to the Big Island when it nears late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
Forecasters originally predicted that Hurricane Flossie would lose most of her strength as she entered cooler water and drop to a Category 1 but now they are seeing a well structured storm that could sustain its strength and pass Hawaii as a Category Three hurricane.
The Big Island was placed under a hurricane watch for the next 36 hours by the National Weather Service.
