The Denver Broncos exacted a bit of revenge on the team that kept them out of the NFL playoffs last year and while the 17-13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers is just a step above meaningless, it is a win.
Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler played one series and led the Denver offense down the field for a touchdown in the first quarter. Cutler was 1-2 passing, his lone reception a 24-yard strike to Javon Walker.
San Francisco countered the Denver scoring drive with one of their own as Alex Smith looked solid taking snaps and completed his night 4-5 for 58 yards on two scoring drives. Joe Nedney put the 49ers on the board with a 37-yard field goal and then Michael Robinson scored on a 1-yard run late in the first.
Patrick Ramsey assumed the duties behind center for the Broncos after Cutler left the game and the backup hit Troy Flemming on a 3-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to give the Broncos the lead. Ramsey finished his night 4-10 for 45 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
