Kentucky Lottery Sets State Record for Sales

The Kentucky Lottery announced Wednesday that it has reached a record of $744 million in ticket revenue this fiscal year, ending June 30. It was the eighth time in the past nine years that total ticket sales have increased over the previous year. The sales increased $2 million dollars from last fiscal year. The lottery winners are announced on the official Kentucky Lottery website, kylottery.com.

Lottery President and CEO Arch Gleason said that 75% of all tickets sold in Kentucky are sold at locations that also sell gas. However, since the price of gas has increased, he thinks that this has cut into the disposable income of the ticket buyers.

About 3,000 lottery retailers in the state were paid a record $47 million in commissions and incentives in fiscal 2007.

A large number of states also set state records for the lottery this fiscal year: Maryland Lottery sold $1.5 billion worth of tickets, Georgia Lottery ($3.4 billion), Kansas Lottery ($241 million), and Texas Lottery ($3.77 billion), to name a few.
