Mattel Recall Now Bumped to Millions as Magnets and Paint Become Health Issue

In one of the largest toy recalls in recent history Mattel Inc. owned Fisher-Price issued a recall for more than one million toys due to lead content in the paint used for decorating Big Bird, Elmo, Dora and Diego and now Mattel is facing an even larger recall as they pull close to 10 million toys of the market due to lead paint and small magnets that could be swallowed by children.

The latest recall involves popular characters from the Polly Pocket dolls series and Batman action figures as well as more than 1 million toy cars that contain lead paint.

Once again the finger was being pointed at toy manufacturers in China for the unsafe levels of lead paint and small magnets. The Chinese manufacturer responsible for the Fisher-Price recall was banned by Chinese officials from exporting products. A co-owner of the Lee-Der Industrial Co. responsible for the toys committed suicide over the weekend amid the controversy.

Mattel has sent a team to China to further investigate the practices of their manufacturers and set up controls to maintain a level of safety in their products.
