Don Imus and his former employer, CBS, have reportedly reached an agreement to settle a $40 million contract that was in question after the radio personality was fired following comments he made regarding the Rutgers University women’s basketball team.
While no terms of the settlement have been disclosed it does open the door for Imus to return to the airwaves. He is said to be in talks with WABC radio already.
Shortly before Imus described the Rutgers team as “nappy-headed hos” he had signed a five year contract worth $40 million. Imus was quickly dismissed from his radio show after several protests were organized demanding the shock jocks firing.
After his firing Imus threatened to sue CBS citing a clause in his contract that described his show as “unique, extraordinary, irreverent, intellectual, topical, controversial.” Imus contended that CBS not only knew that the show could cause controversy but that they actually encouraged him to test the waters for ratings sake.
If Imus agrees on a contract with WABC it would put him on the same broadcaster that carries another controversial personality, Rush Limbaugh.
