Tropical Storm Dean Keeping Forecasters Uncertain of Course

Tropical Storm Dean has surprised some forecasters and is now heading further south and west than originally mapped and could end up hitting the Caribbean by the weekend.

The Atlantic formed Tropical Storm Dean is expected to become the first Atlantic hurricane of the season. While it is still nearly 1,500 miles away from the Venezuelan coast the storm is picking up strength and is currently being fueled by 40 mph winds.

Dean could reach Category 2 strength by the time it hits the Lesser Antilles as it passes through warmer waters and increases intensity. To become a hurricane it will have to sustain winds of 74 mph.
