Fred Thompson Moving Onto Political Stage

After nine years as a Republican Representative from Tennessee, Fred Thompson worked as a character actor, often portraying government characters. His acting roles include that of a judge on the Law & Order television show and he recently announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination for President. His grass roots campaign is picking up steam as more people learn about his views on many issues, as well as his background beyond the screen.

He is a Visiting Fellow with the American Enterprise Institute with a specialty in national security and intelligence. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has not entered the race unprepared for politics, as prior to serving as a State Representative he was co-chief council during the Watergate investigation in the 1970’s. His work as a lawyer with many politicians and political races, has gave him the impetus to seek the highest public office.

Although he is officially testing the waters for a presidential run, Thompson is being pushed by many that the time is right for him to dive right into the political arena. A move that must correspond to rules established by the Federal Election Commission on the timing on declaring candidacy. Still, many supporters of the conservative Republican are continuing to gather supporters to draft Fred Thompson into the crowded field.

He has been slowly and deliberately forming a campaign committee so that when the official announcement is made, his election bid can be off to a running start, ready to work through the field of candidates, in a race to the White House.
