John McCain Far From Over

Despite a publicly acknowledged lack of funds, along with the firing of a majority of his campaign staff, John McCain’s bid for the Republican nomination for president is far from being over. What many do not understand about the crowded Republican field is that McCain is the only one with a reasonable chance of gaining the party’s support and winding up the candidate.

Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson may be getting a lot of press, as well as a lot of money, their staunch conservatism may be their downfall. Their support seems to come more from Independents with a Democratic leaning than from true Republicans. It is becoming obvious that the war in Iraq will be one of the deciding factors in the upcoming election and only McCain has not buried his head in the sand to hide from this issue.

As a true soldier, the only one of the bunch, he understands what the troops are up against and while many may think his support of the president’s plans on the war will hurt him, the party will see it as more a devotion to the party as well as the troops. His support of the war may end up being his biggest advantage

While other candidates try to distance themselves from the president and the war, McCain will garner support of the party faithful. This may be only at about 25 percent currently, but that 25 percent will be all that he needs to land him on top of the party’s list.
