Since Disney has announced its plans to shorten the cinema run of “Alice in Wonderland” by five weeks, two British theater companies, Vue Entertainment and Odeon Cinemas, and most cinema operators in the Netherlands have vowed to boycott the film. Now, AMC Entertainment, the second-largest theater operator in the U.S., is preparing to follow suit.
The logic behind Disney’s decision to accelerate the DVD release for the film was anticipation of increased DVD sales. However, should AMC follow through on their threat, the boycott would be a major blow to box-office returns. AMC has over 4,500 screens worldwide.
