As of this morning Tropical Storm Dean was still more than 1,100 miles from the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean, moving West at 20 mph but the storm has picked up speed and is now packing 50 mph winds as it crosses over warmer water.
Weather experts have predicted that the storm will hit the island chain as a minimal hurricane on Saturday but as it churns its way north will pick up force and could be sustaining 110 mph winds when it hits the Dominican Republic and Haiti by Monday and South Florida by Tuesday.
Forecasters have issued warnings for residents who could be affected by Hurricane Dean but have also said that it could be several days before they now the true path that the storm will take.
