Dave Veres, who is attempting to be come the first person to pitch in the majors with an artificial hip, was released by Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.
Veres will continue to workout this winter and hopes to get another shot with the Rockies in the spring.
Willy Taveras will be placed on the disabled list after re-injuring his right quad.
"It's frustrating because I want to be there for my team," Taveras said.

The team could call up Seth Smith from Triple-A Colorado Springs to replace Taveras on the roster.
LHP Franklin Morales will make his major league debut Saturday at Los Angeles.
Morales has a chance to be outstanding in time, but he's still pretty wild now and won't be a very good bet.
