Hurricane Dean is currently moving at 25 mph west with winds up to 90 mph making it a Category 1 hurricane at the moment but many forecaster expect the Atlantic storm to continue to gather strength and possibly reach Category 4 status buy the time it runs its course through the Caribbean.
As of this morning Hurricane Dean was some 415 miles east of Barbados with forecasters predicting a Friday hit on the island. Warnings have been issued that heavy rain that could cause flash floods and mudslides may occur.
By Saturday Hurricane Dean is expected to hit the south west tip of Hispaniola before a direct path over Jamaica on Sunday. Several projected paths have Dean then hitting the coasts of Honduras and Nicaragua Monday evening rather than turning north into the Gulf of Mexico.
