Jason Giambi Spared Further Discipline from MLB for Steroids Admission

New York Yankees slugger Jason Giambi will not be subject to discipline from Major League Baseball despite his admission that he had used performance enchancing drugs during his career.

MLB commissioner Bud Selig said that because of Giambi’s cooperation in the league’s investigation into steroid use he would be spared any disciplinary action. Giambi met with former Sen. George Mitchell, who is heading up the investigative team, and spoke openly about his past transgressions.

After the decision was announced on Thursday Selig said in a statement, “Jason was frank and candid with Senator Mitchell. That and his impressive charitable endeavors convinced me it was unnecessary to take further action.”

In 2003 Giambi admitted before a grand jury that he used steroids and human growth hormone.

While Giambi has admitted publicly that he used performance enhancing drugs he has never publicly admitted to using steroids opting to say “I was wrong for doing that stuff” instead.
