NASCAR driver John Blewett III killed in muti-car accident

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver John Blewett III died Thursday night at the Thompson International Speedway.

 

According to reports he died of massive head injuries after being involved in a muticar accident that included his brother, Jimmy Blewett. Jimmy was unhurt. It took rescue workers 30 minutes to get Blewett’s body out of his No. 66 car.

 

He was rushed to the Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster, Massachusetts. Blewett was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. “He was unresponsive when he was extricated from the car, but he was still showing signs of life,” said Sergeant Eric Murray.

 

NASCAR stopped the 150 lap race and has not announced a winner although Todd Szegedy was in the lead.
