Rock/Country crossover musician Uncle Kracker was arrested Friday morning on charges that he committed a forcible sex offense on a 26-year-old woman inside a Raleigh, North Carolina nightclub.
The 33-year-old Uncle Kracker, real name Matthew Shafer, was picked up by police at an Embassy Suites Hotel and taken to jail. Bail was set at $5 million after the musician informed the arresting officers that he would leave North Carolina and return to Michigan to avoid the charges.
Kracker is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon
Kracker got his musical break as a DJ for Kid Rock before putting out his debut album, Double Wide, which has now sold more than 2 million copies. His duet with Kenny Chesney “When the Sun Goes Down” earned him a number one single on the country charts in 2004.
