Toyota Appears to Have Overlooked Evidence According to Lawmakers

Financial World News Update by Equities Magazine

Documents investigated by Congress indicate that Toyota Motor Corp. (TM.N) overlooked the prospect that electronic failures could be the cause of incidents of inadvertent acceleration on multiple occasions.

Henry Waxman and Bart Stupak, the senior law makers charged with the examination, believe current recalls are inadequate despite the automakers claims otherwise. Waxman serves as chairmen of the House Energy while Stupak holds the position of Commerce Committee and investigative subcommittee head.

Current claims made by the company “appear inadequate” according to preliminary reviews of documents put forth directly by Toyota and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It was also determined that the latter lacked the capacity to accurately assess the role of electronic throttle systems.

The first of two scheduled hearings regarding recalls of Toyota and Lexus is schedules for Tuesday.
