Men’s AP Top 25 College Basketball Rankings Week 15: Kansas Jayhawks Keep #1 Spot, Kentucky Follows as Villanova Tumbles
The Kansas Jayhawks have kept their position atop the men’s AP Top 25 college basketball rankings for Week 15, collecting 61 of the 65 first place votes to easily hold off the Kentucky Wildcats. Kansas survived a tough road game against Texas A&M and then dismantled Colorado in Big 12 action to keep their #1 ranking.
While the Jayhawks have the #1 ranking the Kentucky Wildcats remain primed for a number one seed come tournament time as they sit #2 this week in the AP men’s top 25 college basketball poll. Kentucky battled to keep their spot this week as they held off Mississippi State by six and then edged Vanderbilt by two. They’ll be tested again this week with a road game against Tennessee on Feb. 27.
Purdue inched up a spot to #3 this week as the Boilermakers benefited from a pair of losses by the Villanova Wildcats. The Boilermakers picked up a big win against Ohio State in a Big Ten showdown and they’ll have their hands full when they host Michigan State on Feb. 28.
Villanova had been looking solid entering last week’s action but losses to Connecticut and Pittsburgh sent them tumbling to #7 this week. Benefiting from their drop was Syracuse, Duke and Kansas State who each moved up a spot.
The Pittsburgh Panthers made a big jump with their wins over Marquette and Villanova, surging from #19 last week to #12 this week. They have to travel to Notre Dame on Feb. 24 in a must-win game for the Irish and then take on St. John’s on Feb. 27.
