The Tigers have reportedly decided to designate Craig Monroe for assignment and send down Omar Infante to make room for Cameron Maybin and Ramon Santiago on the roster.
Both moves come as quite a surprise.
That they're jettisoning Monroe suggests the Tigers believe Maybin will play a significant role through the end of the season.
Monroe was hitting .222/.264/.373 with 11 homers in 343 at-bats.
He's been overrated the last couple of years, but he'd still make for a fine bench player, mostly because he hits lefties well.
There should be several teams interested in him.
