Will Obama Friendly States Give Much Needed Boost?

The FEC shows that Barack Obama is a favorite of democratic donors in Colorado, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Montana, Washington, Illinois, Kentucky, Vermont, Hawaii and Maine. Yet those who are ready to pin their hopes on Obama need to be careful lest they rejoice too quickly! Colorado, Washington, Illinois, Kentucky, Hawaii, Vermont and Oklahoma are favoring the democratic presidential nomination hopeful, while in North Dakota and Montana the number of republican donors outweighs that of democratic voters.

According to USA Election Polls, a 07-03-07 Newsweek Poll shows that Barack Obama is trailing behind the former First Lady by a considerable margin. He comes in with 33% against her 56%. A 05-03-07 Newsweek Poll, which incidentally gives Obama the highest percentage point of any major poll, still shows him behind Mrs. Clinton with 39% to 51%. Interestingly, even in Colorado which is fiscally quite well disposed toward Obama, it is the former First Lady who is carrying the day in national polls taken by the American Research Group on 07-17-07.

At this point in time it does not look as though Barack Obama's donors will also turn into his voters and in so doing manage to sway those who might otherwise look to support Mrs. Clinton with their votes. As a matter of fact, even those who were looking at Obama as the golden boy of the Democratic Party are beginning to wonder if he is even able to make good vice-presidential material since it is highly doubtful that he will be able to carry any of the major swing states with any level of certainty.
