The 2008 presidential election is interesting in more ways than one. Pitting against one another candidates that are different in world view and experience, the election is also fateful in that it does not force the Republican Party to run its Vice President whose approval ratings are hovering barely across rock bottom. Thus, the race is on to see who will receive either party's nod for the nomination.
Yet the road to the nomination is paved with difficulty, and quite a few democratic hopefuls have already withdrawn they candidacy. Take for example Tom Vilsack who used to be the governor of Iowa who also established the Heartland PAC and supported John Kerry's run in 2004 with the strongest of terms. Due to the fact that he could not raise the money needed, this democratic powerhouse was forced to abandon his 2008 hopes.
The USA Election Polls site posts various polls and statistics indicating that some who have not yet even declared their runs are already factoring in on the support 9or lack thereof) their party mates are receiving. While Al Gore features first and foremost and as of yet has been ominously silent about whether or not he is considering a run for the highest office, the sad news that Tom Vilsack had to call it quits seems to have had very little if any ripple effects in the field of the contestants. Vilsack has since endorsed former Fist Lady Hillary Clinton and pledged his financial support to her campaign.
