Perhaps one of the most enigmatic presidential candidates for 2008, Barack Hussein Obama is anything but your ordinary American. He is not the first African American to put his name into the presidential election and he is not the first African American to hold a seat in a state senate. He is, however, the first American with a Muslim name to run for the Oval Office. He was born to a Kenyan father and American mother in Hawaii and seemed like almost any child, playing sports, going to college; he even admittedly tried drugs.
True, he's not the first Presidential Candidate to admit to using drugs so that's not even a strike against him. But will America actually vote someone with a Muslim name to office? It seems unlikely since the events of September 11, 2001 but nonetheless he remains a favorite. Maybe Senator Obama is just what Americans need to realize that not everyone with a Muslim name is a terrorist. He is very adamant about stopping al-Qaeda should they try to do anything once again to the United States of America. However, he is pushing the lines of separation of church and state by suggesting politicians “reach out to evangelicals and other religious people”. This, oddly enough, almost contradicts his stand on abortion (he supports legalized abortion). Even though he would be the first non white President, the first President with a Muslim name (if elected, of course), he remains at the top of the Democratic favorite's list.
