Presidential Candidates Faces Scrutiny on their Religious

As the campaign trail heats up, a number of presidential candidates both from the Democratic and the Republican Parties come into public scrutiny over their religious affiliations. Mitt Romney of the GOP who is a Mormon is one of the favorite targets in this area along with fellow GOP candidates Senator John McCain who is an Episcopalian, Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister, a Methodist and former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani, a divorced Roman Catholic.

On the side of the Democratic party, Democratic candidates Senator Hillary Clinton, who is a Methodist, Senator Barack Obama, a member of the United Church of Christ Senator John Edwards also a Methodist are also being questioned about the possible effect of their faith on the way they will run the country when they become president.

In a poll conducted recently, people are not comfortable with the idea of having Muslin or a Mormon for president. This puts Obama whose middle name is “Hussein” is a tight situation because people believe that he had been converted into the muslin religion during his long stay in Indonesia. Of course the allegations that he is Muslin were vehemently denied by the Obama camp. On the other hand, Romney is also under fire for being a Mormon. Many Republicans are not really happy with the way that Romney decides to be identified closely with his church. Note that Romney recently announced that he has no intention of keeping distance from his church no matter what people may say about his being a Mormon.
