Many Americans are not really very familiar with Mike Huckabee. As the former Arkansas Governor, this GOP candidate is not really what we may call a household name in most parts of the country. However, Huckabee may be one of the most unconventional candidates that we have for this years GOP nomination. Huckabee is an ordained minister of the Baptist Church and he plays guitar in a rock and roll band called Capital Offense. He even performed for his supporters last Saturday at the Ames. Of course we have had an actor as president of the country but we never had a rock and roll guitarist who is also an ordained church minister. Indeed that combination is rare even in this modern era.
After coming in second to Mitt Romney in the Iowa straw poll, Huckabee is coming into the limelight. Many people are now interested about what Huckabee has to say about the different issues that beset the country. Some of the issues that Huckabee is very much concerned about are abortion and same sex marriage. Like most of his fellow Republicans, Hucakabee is against abortion. He viewed abortion as a violation of life itself and should not be legalized. On the other hand, when it comes to the issue of same sex marriage, as an ordained minister of the Baptist Church, he is not about to perform a marriage between two people of the same sex. Although he truly believes in the freedom of choice, he still believes that freedom should not be used to violate the sanctity of marriage.
