MLB Suspended LHP James Houser

MLB suspended LHP James Houser 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the minor league drug prevention and treatment program.

The suspension not only finishes his season, but it will cost him the first month of 2008.

Houser, a 2003 second-round pick, came back from elbow problems in 2005 and emerged as a decent prospect last year.

He was 5-4 with a 3.65 ERA, 88 H and 90/39 K/BB in 103 2/3 IP for Double-A Montgomery this season.

Prior to this, he looked like he could develop into a fourth of fifth starter for Tampa Bay.
