New England Patriots Re-sign Vinny Testaverde as Tom Brady Backup

Vinny Testaverde will be returning to play in his 21st NFL season after signing a deal on Saturday that will keep him in a New England Patriots uniform for another year.

Testaverde, a former number one draft pick out of the University of Miami, has thrown 270 career touchdown passes while amassing 45,281 yards through the air. At 43-years-old Testaverde is 13 years older than Patriots starter Tom Brady.

The former Heisman Trophy winner sat out most of last year but New England head coach Bill Belichick asked him to join the squad as an emergency backup. Testaverde played in three regular season games for the Pats and tossed a touchdown to keep his streak of 20 seasons with a touchdown going. In 2005 Testaverde threw one touchdown while in Jets uniform to extend his streak to 19 seasons.

Testaverde was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1987 and has played for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, and Dallas Cowboys prior to joining the New England Patriots.
