Jayson Williams Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

Former New Jersey Net Will Serve at Least 18 Months

Jayson Williams, who played nine seasons for the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets, has pleaded guilty for accidentally killing Costas Christofi in 2002.  Williams shot the limousine driver in his New Jersey home on February 14, 2002 with a double-barreled shotgun, while showing it off to him and some other friends.  In 2004, Williams was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter but was convicted of trying to cover up the incident.

After eight years, a January 11 guilty plea by Williams would finally see him sentenced to five years in prison for the cover-up attempt.  Williams’ plea was for aggravated assault and he will be eligible for parole after 18 months.
