Drug Rehab Program Shares In 44th Anniversary Celebration

Narconon Freedom Center hosts anniversary celebration for staff and clients.

Narconon Freedom Center, a residential drug and alcohol program in Albion, Michigan has a lot to celebrate. The center has been successfully operating out of its new location for the last three years, and in the state of Michigan for almost eight, helping people to permanently recover from substance abuse issues. In addition, the center as part of the Narconon network is celebrating 44 years of saving lives all over the world.

To observe these milestones Narconon Freedom Center held a special event at their facility this past Friday night with their staff and clients. The event dovetailed Narconon’s weekly graduation, where clients are acknowledged for completing parts of the program as well as finishing the entire Narconon curriculum.

During the event, one of Narconon’s senior staff spoke to the clients telling them the story of how Narconon got its humble beginnings when it was started behind the walls of Arizona State Penitentiary in 1966 by a man named William Benitez. Benitez, who read a book by American Author and Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard while incarcerated, ended up not only conquering his own addiction but also using this unique technology to help others when he ran a pilot program in the prison with 12 inmates.

Today, the program that started with 12, has now graduated more than 30,000 and Narconon operates 140 centers in 50 different countries treating close to 1,000 people at any given time.

“The Narconon philosophy is simple,” explains Megan Brenner, Dissemination Supervisor at Narconon Freedom Center. “We do not subscribe to the idea that addiction is a disease and we do not use drugs to get a person off drugs. “

“What we do is handle both the mental and physical aspects of addiction and raise the ability of the individual,” Brennan adds. “Narconon is unlike any other program out there and we get results unlike most drug treatment methods.”

The Narconon program in Michigan and Narconon centers throughout the world are remembering this day as one to acknowledge those that have made it out of the trap of addiction and also to send a message to those still struggling with substance abuse; that addiction can be overcome.
