Car and Driver Magazine's annual list of the top 10 safest vehicles under $25,000 rates the Saturn Astra as overall best.
It's followed by the Scion xB, 2008 Hyundai Sonata, Volkswagen Rabbit, Mini Cooper, Toyota Camry, Volvo C30, Dodge Charger, Honda Accord and Mazda CX-7.
The rankings were released today.
Car and Driver said they consider accident prevention and crash worthiness in picking the winners.
In order to be considered, the cars had to have stability control and six airbags, including curtain airbags to protect the head.
